Advent is a sacred season of preparation for Christ’s coming. This year, Advent Sundays begin on Sunday, November 26th and run through Sunday, December 17th. Our theme is “God with Us.” Each Sunday’s worship will focus on a character in the Advent story, exploring how God’s love intervened in their lives to unsettle, startle, and challenge them, while also introducing them to God’s all-encompassing love. In addition to scripture, worship will feature sacred art and music that accompany these biblical figures. These characters are:
- November 26: The Prophet Isaiah; Isaiah 40:1-11 and Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11
- December 3: Elizabeth*; Luke 1:5-24 and Luke 1:39-45
*In celebration of the Giving Grace campaign, there is one service on December 3 at 10:00 a.m.
- December 10: John the Baptist; Mark 1:1-8 and 2 Peter 3:8-15a
- December 17: Mary, Jesus’s mother; Luke 1:46b-55 and Luke 1:26-38
On Christmas Eve, our single morning service will be at 10:00 a.m. and be designed around Las Posadas, or A Service of Shelter for the Holy Family. Our evening service will be at 4:00 p.m. This service will be a blended one, featuring our Children’s and Chancel Choirs, hymns, a reading of the Christmas story and Holy Communion. This service will be designed for people of all ages.
Worship on Sunday, December 31 will also be a single service at 10:00 a.m. We’ll ring in the New Year together. You are invited to bring a bell with you! Grace will also sponsor an informal brunch following the service.
