4 pm Lenten Sacred Storytelling Workshop

March 29, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Everyone has a story to tell; about events in their lives that have shaped them, struggles they have overcome, values they cherish, and people who have helped guide them along their way.  Stories can make us laugh, cry, and connect to one another. At its heart, scripture is a story of God’s relationship with humankind and, in fact, the Gospels are the stories of Jesus told to and for us.

This Lent, you are invited to prayerfully consider how the stories of your life intersect with God’s story. Our Lenten Sacred Storytelling class will use the gospel of John’s stories about Jesus as a launching point to share our own stories. We’ll consider the mechanics of structure, language, and genre to ponder how John communicates Jesus’ life to us and then we’ll apply those insights in writing short pieces from our own lives. This is a class for everyone – no matter your skill level or writing experience. Sharing stories together is a powerful way of learning about ourselves, one another, and about God.

Sacred Story-telling will be offered for four weeks beginning this Sunday, March 8 and led by Rev. Dr. Amy McCullough. Class will be held on Sundays from 4 – 5:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 – 10:30 a.m. The Sunday and Thursday class will be identical each week, and you may shift between the two meeting times as needed. While pre-registration is not required, Rev. Amy would like to know if you plan to attend. You can RSVP to her at amy@graceunitedmethodist.org.
