The youth of Grace meet for Sunday School class on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. via Zoom, and all youth, grades 6th and up, are invited. Lessons are developed using scripture, Methodist history and tradition, as well as current events, as we seek to nurture faith of young Christian disciples.
Pre-COVID, the Youth Choir rehearsed Sundays after the 10:00 am service in the Choir Room, lower level, with Robert Cantrell, our professional baritone and instructor at the Baltimore School of the Arts. We look forward to the time when they, as well as all singers, may make music together again! The group normally sings in services once a month as well as special services and concerts with the Chancel Choir.
Historically, the youth of Grace also gathered outside of Sunday mornings to build friendship, serve the community, and to have fun. Activities included trips to Hershey Park, lock-ins, service days and mission trips. Confirmation at Grace typically happens in the 8th grade year and consists of a series of classes in the winter and spring. Despite the pandemic, Grace Church did welcome four confirmands into the congregation in 2020.
Our youth have also joined in summer mission trips. In 2019, they went back to Harrisburg, PA to assist local neighborhood associations with small home repair, community beautification and cleanup programs, and visitation of senior care facilities. Although the dates for the next trip is uncertain, our youth will once again share their energy and willingness to serve!
