Food and Faith Summer Sermon Series
This summer’s worship will revolve around the themes of food and faith. We will look at several stories in scripture where food is a deciding factor, thinking theologically about how God provides for us. We’ll explore Biblical stories in which food is scarce and ponder how God is asking us to enter into the spiritual and moral loneliness of the world. Rev. Amy McCullough will be the primary preacher through July and August. We will also welcome three guest preachers. Rev. Dr. Emora Brannan will preach in July, and Rev. John Nupp and Pastor Martina Martin will preach in August. We pray that just as food nourishes us, this summer’s worship will fill our bodies and souls.
We Offer Two Worship Experiences!
8:30AM – Simple Prayer Worship
A service of prayer, scripture, message and music with organ and soloist. This service is approximately 45 minutes in length, filling the need for those with a busy Sunday schedule and those who wish for a quieter time to worship.
10:00AM – Celebration Worship with Traditional Songs from our Chancel Choir
A service of praise and thanksgiving with prayer, scripture, children’s time, sermon, music offered and led by Grace’s excellent choirs. This worship is followed by a fellowship time in the church parlor where folks can meet and greet while enjoying refreshment before leaving God’s house.
Throughout the church year we hold additional services midweek during Lent (and Holy Week on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday), Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We also have an evening outdoor service each summer at Emory Grove.
Lay participation is an important ingredient in our worship with lay readers, communal prayer, and congregational singing as part of the services. All worshippers are invited to participate in worship by joining the altar guild or choir, serving on an usher team or as a lay reader. The youth serve as altar servers and children can join one of our children’s choirs.**Childcare for infants and toddlers is available during worship services in the Cribbery. We have pagers for the parents to carry to worship if they choose. Should young children prefer to remain in church with their family, there are activity packets available. Please ask an usher.**
